HMRC warns of VAT bank details fraud

HMRC has reported that Form VAT 484 has been used in fraudulent attempts to gain access to businesses’ VAT repayments by changing contact and bank details.  HMRC is endeavouring to mitigate this scam by writing to businesses to confirm changes made to their details since the beginning of the year.

All VAT registered businesses should remain vigilant and check that bank details are correct in the tax account, and that any expected payments have been received.
